Hello Nextdoor neighbors, I have prepared for you a quick update on some of the current development projects in the City of Azusa. Please feel free to share them with your neighbors, friends and family:
Lagunitas Azusa Brewery
Lagunitas Azusa Brewery, located at 1223 W. Tenth Street (otherwise known as 10th Street and Todd Ave.) has all expectations of coming on-line in spring of 2017. The brand new production facility (brewery), taproom, administration and delivery complex will be spread over three buildings covering some 250,000 square feet of space. It is estimated that the brewery will produce 1.8 million barrels of craft beer each year at a bottling clip of about 750 bottles every minute.
Lagunitas has plans for a 5,000 square foot elevated taproom above the production floor. From this vantage point the brewery tourists will be able to follow the bottling process from above. Tony Magee, founder of Lagunitas says that he also has plans for a 300-seat amphitheater for putting on a variety of live events. He also states that community ties are a very important part of the companyโs history of success and will actually be using the outdoor space and the elevated taproom for a variety of local events as time goes on.

Block 36
Block 36 is located at the two major intersection of the southeast corner of Foothill Blvd. and Azusa Avenue and will soon feature a mixed-use development which will be anchored by a five-screen Laemmle Movie Arts Theater. The Serrano Group Development Project will also feature 108 residential units, retail and restaurant space as well as an outdoor plaza in the historic heart of Azusaโs downtown. It is expected that the Laemmle Movie Arts Theater will attract 75,000 people to downtown Azusa. The project is a short walking distance from the Azusa Downtown Station of the Metro Gold Line.
Mixed Use Development Across from the Target Store
Ever since the City started building the Intermodal Parking Structure for the Azusa Downtown Station of the Metro Gold Line and Foothill Transit residents have been asking what the City is going to do with the empty lot directly across the street from the Target Store. That is going to be the site of developer Costanzo Investmentโs 13,000 to 15,000 square feet of ground floor retail development and 60,000 to 70,000 square feet of residential space in a mixed-use development. Situated a few feet from the Azusa Metro Downtown Station, the Target Store and Azusaโs historic Downtown, this spectacular development with be a crowning jewel of the walkable downtown district.
Meet Me at the โAโโฆ
โฆno, not the one on the hills above Rosedale, but the one that is coming adjacent to the west bound platform of the Azusa Metro Downtown Station. As an element of the Arts in Public Places the City has selected to install a permanent outdoor work of art which will be accessible and visible to the general public from the street and clearly visible from the Gold Line trains. An iconic โAโ will be constructed and placed at the Azusa Downtown Station which will make the phrase, โmeet me at the Aโ a favorite saying for Azusans and visitors alike.
Townhomes Walking Distance from Gold Line
Just north of Azusa Veterans Park and the City Library The Olson Company will be building 27 efficiently stylish townhomes on 9th Street and Dalton Avenue. Because of the 27 townhomesโ proximity to the Azusa Metro Downtown Station, and the full palette of coming amenities to the Downtown it is anticipated that commuters who ride the Gold Line to work will give these units a very close look.
Home2Suites by Hilton Coming Soon
Home2Suites by Hilton, just south of the 210 Freeway (the former site of Enterprise Rent-A-Car), broke ground on the 59.445 square foot site that will feature a four-story, 107 room extended stay hotel conveniently located just south of the 210 Freeway on Azusa Avenue. The business class hotel will include and outdoor pool and a detached 4,400 square foot McDonalds Restaurant.
Smart & Final
Did you know that the Grocery Store Company Smart & Final is coming to town? It is. Development details are being worked out with the grocery chain as they evaluate the new site at Foothill Blvd. and Dalton Avenue directly across the street from the Azusa Civic Auditorium. Weโll keep you posted on the development of this project which will bring one more full-service grocer to Azusa.
